Chapter History
The Germany Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. holds a rich legacy rooted in service, sisterhood, and resilience. Originally chartered in 1979 as the West Germany-West Berlin Alumnae Chapter, the chapter was established in Frankfurt, Germany, by a pioneering group of fourteen sorors dedicated to expanding the mission and principles of Delta Sigma Theta on international soil.
The chapter’s founding reflected the unique challenges and opportunities of serving in a divided Germany, uniting sorors to uphold the Sorority’s ideals despite geographical and political barriers. Following the momentous reunification of East and West Germany in 1989, the chapter’s name was officially changed to the Germany Alumnae Chapter by Delta Sigma Theta National Headquarters. This renaming symbolized a new era of unity, growth, and commitment to serving communities across a now-reunified nation.
This chapter is part of the sorority's broader commitment to international awareness and involvement, fostering a sense of sisterhood among African American women living abroad.
The chapter serves as a beacon of service, scholarship, and social action in Germany, addressing the specific needs of local communities through volunteerism, educational initiatives, and social advocacy. The members of the Germany Alumnae Chapter work tirelessly to uphold the national and regional mission of Delta Sigma Theta, while also contributing to the cultural richness of the African American diaspora in Europe.
The Germany Alumnae Chapter is where sisterhood, scholarship, and service intersect. We are growing as a chapter, purposefully planning programs that empower our communities and elevate our collective impact. As OneGAC, we stand united as OneChapter, OneSisterhood, OneDelta—working together to create meaningful, lasting change.
